What Are Your MATH Plans?

It's been a very busy summer. I've been occupied (in no particular order) with:
  • sick people (first a child and now a husband...my Lysol trigger finger has gotten plenty of exercise!)
  • packing - both a child for the first year of college and the entire family for a week of camping
  • gardening - I've frozen a tremendous amount of green beans and hope to put up a lot more produce
  • supporting teachers - blogging (not here, obviously!), writing, and teaching workshops
  • lesson planning - thinking about this fall!!!
Our vacation didn't start til the end of June and won't end until early September, but my math wheels are turning with new ideas as I plan for Bridges Second Edition. I also want to incorporate math apps (free), children's literature, and notebooks. (Math all day, every day?) :)

Have you started planning your year? Some of you have probably already begun. I'm curious to know what you are using for math this year, whether in the classroom or in a homeschool setting.

Share your plans! :)

    1. Hi Lisa! You can check out the link. I love Bridges and have been using it for a long time. The second edition is out this year for K-2 and coming out for 3-5. Loving what I've used so far! Very hands-on, mathematical thinking and strategies.

  3. Hi Cindy,
I teach first grade and I'm excited to say that my team-mate and I are piloting Bridges for math. We just got our kits and the program looks fantastic. It lines up with common core and is very hands on.

  4. A varied mix of iPad games, board games, dice games, card games (Education Unboxed), living maths books (eg. the Sir Cumference series, Life of Fred, Maths Genius) along with journals, life (incidental experiences and conversations), old Enrich-e-matics and Think-Matics books, Singapore Maths workbooks at times, songs, videos, Targeting Maths (Cd roms and iPad apps), numerous online tools (eg. nrich, Khan, Zoo Whiz, Vi Hart videos) ... a happy, eclectic range!

  5. Hi Cindy,
Bridges looks like something I would have loved to use when I was teaching. But is it adaptable for a homeschool environment?

This year, we are dropping Singapore Math (at request from DD) and will work with Miquon, Life of Fred, Beast Academy and Living Math books.

    1. Adaptable? Definitely. Homeschool priced? Probably not. But there are a TON of free items on the site, including some units that were rewritten for the homeschool audience. Great stuff.

(they just made Problem Solving with Story Boxes free...I used Opening Eyes when I taught 3rd grade...)

These are especially great for homeschool setting:

I'm not familiar with Beast Academy. Need to check it out.
