Here's another way of exploring fractions on the Geoboard App (free and available online or as a download for electronic devices.) I asked a 4th grader to determine which is greater, 1/2 or 3/8? Here is his response:
My first question is what is your goal? Are you saying that the next logical step would be a lesson on LCD? I hope you don't mind, but if that's what you're saying, I'd love to ask why that would be the next step?
And where do you go from there? 16 isn't the LCD.
