I read the art...wow!! this is an eye opening post!

I read the article "harmful effects of carrying and borrowing." As a homeschooling MOm, I found this out the hard way. For a couple of years I had a daily battle with my oldest daughter because I insisted she solved the Math problems the way I was taught in school, and the way the Math book was teaching. I finally realized I was just ruining it for her. She understood the concepts, she could reason and solve the problems her "own way". Why was making Math so difficult for her?

I finally figured out (with the help of many unschoolers, mom bloggers and the Holy Spirit) that I should just let her be. With my second child, the story is been so different. He solves his math problems from right to left and gets the answers right every time.

Again, thank you. :)Tereza Crumphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07051821102578257785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2429983491199569680.post-87752891863437113352012-03-18T05:54:05.622-07:002012-03-18T05:54:05.622-07:00Thanks for the links! Educators, especially those who are not specifically certified in math or consider themselves math specialists, need to be aware of the implications of such teaching. I am especially to finish reading this study. :)Janayehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02255030091299082258noreply@blogger.com
